Takio Nakamura
Driven by a desire to paint “unsweetened, grown-up fantasies that blur the line between fantasy and surrealism,” the Morioka-based artist Takio Nakamura uses materials in unique ways in his tempera and fresco paintings that tell fantastical stories in wholly original scenes. Nakamura started out as a self-taught artist roughly 20 years ago and had a studio in Paris from 1996 through 1997. Since returning to Japan he has continued to work actively, holding mainly solo exhibitions. Nakamura’s unflagging desire to take on new challenges can be seen in his work from recent years, which includes ink and pencil drawings as well as sculptures giving three-dimensional representation to his visions. This exhibition focuses on new works.
