Artists

Kiyoshi Kawashima
Kiyoshi Kawashima traveled to the US on a scholarship from the Asian Cultural Council from 1986 to 1988, where he participated in the P.S. 1 project in New York. Since the start of the 1990s, Kawashima has continued to exhibit his work at events around the world. Having presented large-scale solo exhibitions including new work at Kawagoe City Art Museum and Iwaki Municipal Museum of Art last year, he is considered one of Japan’s top practicing sculptors.
Kawashima’s sculptural works are produced using heavy materials such as iron, lead, wood and plaster, while his drawings can be understood not only as plans for his sculptures, but as separate sculptural works in their own right comprised of paper and board. This exhibition focuses on new two-dimensional works, as well as previously shown large format copperplate prints around 2.3 meters in size that have been colored with gouache, iron rust, collage and other materials.
