Soichi Yamaguchi
Soichi Yamaguchi creates paintings on the theme of visual awareness. It can be said that the information an object communicates changes based on the viewer; individual people respond differently upon observing the same thing. The act of looking involves an interaction with one’s consciousness, which must process information, resulting in the meaning of an object being in flux. For this solo exhibition by Yamaguchi a series of works that make use of a single, repeated motif will be presented. The color palate is typically un-Japanese, while the use of multiple perspectives is designed to encourage a feeling of incongruity in the viewer. Intentional visibility of the brush strokes adds a painterly reality to the works.
