Fumiyo Ikeda

Rosas is a top Belgian dance company, and Fumiyo Ikeda was a dancer with the company from its formation in 1983 until 2008. From 2007 onward, she began working on her own ideas and remains active on the dance scene both in Japan and overseas to this day. On this occasion she will present a series of showcases on the theme “Powerlessness.” She is not approaching simply the big issues such as war and societal problems, but also looks to explore relationships such as the self and others, the self and nature, the self and society, and the self and death.
There will be three showcases in total presenting the results of a four-day workshop held with various participants. This is a valuable chance to see how this experienced dancer expresses herself and approaches creation. A talk by Ikeda will follow each of the showcases. Here she will discuss various aspects of daily activities and thoughts, including things related to this project.
