Hiroko Koshino
Nikko Company, a manufacturer of Western-style dinnerware, and Hiroko Koshino first met 30 years ago. Since then, they have worked together to bring modern dinnerware to the world. The “Sumi no Toki” series presented here is based on the various expressions that appear in ink paintings by Koshino. For Koshino, the sensibility of ink is a crystallization of the beauty of Japan. With the meeting of Western-style dinnerware and pure white, fine bone china produced domestically by Nikko, the beauty of the West and of Japan are brilliantly fused together. A profound world of black and white is expressed within the blank spaces of each time. Appearing in Japan for first time, the series will be shown alongside table settings. Original works and a new series of ink paintings by Koshino will also be presented. Koshino considers the existence of art in everyday life to be the pinnacle of hospitality.
Furthermore, a commemorative exhibition of “Ai Gasane,” dinnerware designed by Koshino that was released at the start of their collaboration, will celebrate their 30-year anniversary.
