Russell Maurice ”Crying Dog“

Gallery Target
Finished

Artists

Russell Maurice
The title of this exhibition refers to a surreal phenomenon of “crying dog figurines” that emerged in the 1970s and 1980s. Attempts to solve the mystery of their origin or meaning have been impossible. In response, artist Russell Maurice has merged this mysterious archetype with his own complex array of stylistic and thematic influences.

Working on a wide mix of formats, sculpture, painting, animation cells, holographic elements and light-boxes, each work conveys Maurice’s universe, his alchemic and cosmic-comic approach, and his own version of Comic Abstraction. The exhibition also celebrates the launch of a ceramic edition a Crying Dog sculpture produced with Medicom.
