2016 was referred to by many as “Apichatpong Year;” Thai director/artist Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s feature film “Cemetery of Splendor” was released in cinemas throughout Japan in 2016, while his solo exhibition opened at Tokyo Photographic Art Museum in December, and the book Apichatpong Weerasethakul: Artist of Light and Memory” was published. This book explores Weerasethakul works from the perspective of art, anthropology and film criticism.

For this event, multidisciplinary film critic Atsushi Sasaki will discuss the films of Weerasethakul and the future of film criticism together with editors Miyuki Natsume and Yu Kaneko.
