François Halard
Born in France in 1961, François Halard is a photographer based between Arles in the South of France and New York who has photographed the ateliers of artists such as Cy Twombly, Luigi Ghirri, Louise Bourgeois, and Richard Avedon as well as worked on editorials for international interior and fashion magazines. He is also recognized as one of the world’s most outstanding architectural photographers.
For this shoot, Halard visited the studio of American photographer and painter Saul Leiter in 2015, two years after his death. He shot the decaying walls, empty closet, and personal effects left behind by the artist in his East Village space.

A special edition of the “Saul Leiter” photo book produced by Sweden and Paris based publisher Libraryman, released this autumn in a run of 10, will be available here. Furthermore, Halard will visit Japan for the first time in order to attend the opening reception, and will be available for book signings.
