Osamu Watanabe
Known as Prince of Sweets in the art world, Osamu Watanabe is a pioneer in his approach to the use of decorative sweets in the arena of contemporary art proper. He has appeared on Japanese TV shows such as “Tokyo Kawaii TV”(NHK) and the long-running “Tetsuko no heya (Tetsuko’s Room),” while the solo exhibition he held in his hometown of Yamaguchi in 2015 welcomed more that 30,000 visitors. Watanabe’s work is comprised of painstakingly sculpted resin that resembles real cream, candy, fruit and the like. He has attracted much attention overseas with solo exhibitions held in China, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, the US and South Korea. His first book “Sweet or Unsweet” was published in 2012 and his work is included in collections at Ohara Museum of Art and Kiyosu City Haruhi Art Museum. This exhibition will introduce 40 works on the theme “Sweet Memory.”
