Masahiro Wada
This exhibition will be composed of mainly Masahiro Wada’s recent films featuring old Japanese folktales. In his works Wada takes up old tales such as “Saru-Kani Gassen (Battle Between Crab And Monkey)”, “Kobu-Tori Jiisan (The Old Man Who Got His Wen Snatched Off)”, and “Yamamba (Mountain Witch)”, stories familiar to Japanese people. Wada often amplifies movable architecture-like installations in the films; or he uses primitive and necromantic motifs such like fire, meat, darkness, smoke. This exhibition focuses on one aspect of recent works by Wada, exhibiting films featuring three old tales and other works relating to myth or folklore. Wada’s sketching materials are also displayed.
