Currently on exhibit during the Japan in Architecture: Genealogies of Its Transformation exhibition is an exact-size replica of Japan’s oldest existing tea house and national treasure Taian on the premises of Myokian Temple in Kyoto and said to be the only tea house design attributable to the tea master Sen Rikyu. In commemoration, the exhibition is inviting tea master Soshin Kimura to reflect on the uniquely Japanese space that is the tea house. The session will be moderated by architect Ryuji Fujimura, a proponent of “social architecture”.
