Carrying Japan forward - The Rinpa School, Ito Jakuchu and Anime

Takashimaya Shinjuku 10F Art Gallery
Finished
This exhibition presents works that combine the world of Japanese-style nihonga paintings, by artists such as Ito Jakuchu and those of the Rinpa School, with contemporary anime characters. Starting in 2015 as an homage to the Rinpa School, this body of work visualizes what it would look like if the world of manga and anime was depicted using the techniques of traditional Japanese painting. The paintings produced under the direction of Yoshiyuki Hosomi, Director of Hosomi Museum, were presented in a “Rinpa School Homage Exhibition” held at Kyoto International Manga Museum in the fall of 2015.
Here a total of 35 works will be exhibited under one roof, including paintings previously shown in Kyoto as well as brand new works inspired by the paintings of Ito Jakuchu.
