Paper cut art is usually created cutting the outlines of the motifs to express their shapes. However, paper cut artist Risa Fukui creates works with three-dimensionality by layering countless drawing-like delicate lines on each other. Her technique of using layers of lines to bring movement to her depictions of plants, animals, and humans has been held in high regard and her work has been featured on album covers of famous artists, the books of popular writers, and in the work of fashion designers. This exhibition showcases 28 original pieces of artwork from her first picture book “Sounds of the Insect World”.
