Yeka Haski
While on a surfing trip, Yeka Haski experienced swimming in a sea of litter on the beaches of Bali. Inspired by this episode, Yeka has strived to find ways to talk about the topic of waste.

In this solo exhibition, Yeka integrates her whimsical characters on discarded materials like plastic bags and objects creating art pieces that explore creativity in new forms. In repurposing materials, she instills a renewed significance into “trash” and in doing so, stirs a conversation about how we consume and produce waste today. Yeka will display small to large-scale paintings, one of which features ’blue sheets,’ a plastic mat commonly used during picnics in Japan.

Painting on the ‘blue sheets,’ she transforms a generic material, turning waste into works of art. Utilizing the allure of her art, she encourages her audience to have conversations about the environment and how we can start living “cleanly”.
