This exhibition presents the history and culture of art in Kamakura Zen temples with a special showcase of the collection of Engaku-ji Temple. Zen Buddhism came to Japan from China in the 11th century during the Kamakura period. Engaku-ji Temple became the center of a flourishing art scene that lead to the creation of exquisite sculptures, paintings, calligraphic scrolls, etc. On display are 110 pieces (including national treasures) from the Engaku-ji collection.
