Yoko Ikeda “Combine and Resonate”

Kamakura Gallery
Finished

Artists

Yoko Ikeda
Yoko Ikeda catches minor but attractive scenes that usually slip through unnoticed in ordinary life. At first glance, the objects in some of her works seem difficult to grasp because they are extremely out of focus or are too close-up: a trimmed part from a wall, a floor, or even light filtering through the trees. Each view, guided by her own sense for details, gives form to rhythmic shapes or shadows of motifs and beautiful colors or light.

In 2015, following her second photo book “Monkey Puzzle” Ikeda received The New Photographer Award in The Thirty Second Higashikawa International Photo Festival and also The First Photo Basel ALPA Award in 2018. This exhibition is Ikeda’s first solo at Kamakura Gallery and in it the artist displays twenty-five works, including her latest and yet-to-be released ones taken in Aomori, Nagano, Tokyo, Switzerland, France and Taipei, each selected to resonate with the gallery space. Ikeda says that “taking photos is a kind of experimentation to encounter unknown things.” Enjoy this opportunity to journey to find unknown scenery through Ikeda’s photographs.
