Open Studio is a special opportunity to see the creative process of residing creators and hear their talks with guest speakers. On 7/13 (Sat), eight creators will give talks on their artworks and activities during the residency. There will also be a talk by Lee Kai Chung and guest Natsumi Araki on 7/14 (Sun). On 7/13 (Sat) and 7/14 (Sun), there will be a gallery tour, which will start from this Open Studio. TOKAS staff will introduce residing creators’ activities and research.

During the process of research on archival materials related to Pan-Asian logistics during World War II, Lee came to realize the authorities’ power to create an impotent or incomplete representation of history. He aims to suspend such established historical judgment and instead uncover details to create micronarratives based on personal experiences, allowing for reinterpretation and imagination. Guest speaker Natsumi Araki, who has organized various exhibitions related to history and memory, will discuss Lee’s practice from the perspective of how research contributes to making art.
