Mede Suwaru – Chairs You Can See Today

Museum of Modern Art, Saitama
Finished
The Museum of Modern Art, Saitama is known as the “Chair Museum” for its variety of chairs in which you can freely sit and familiarize yourself with good design. However, in order to prevent coronavirus infections, for the time being the museum has limited the display of chairs on which visitors can sit. In this exhibition, instead of actually sitting in a chair, you can appreciate its excellent design, created from the plentiful ideas of its designer, by looking––in other words––”sitting with your eyes.” As you take in the shapes, colors, and materials, try to imagine the space where the chair would be placed, how comfortable it is, and the ideas the designer incorporated into it. Discover a new appeal of chairs from a different angle than you would have by enjoying a sit in them.
