Sohei Nishino
In MITSUKOSHI CONTEMPORARY GALLERY, I will hold “Tokaido Sohei Nishino exhibition” following an opening exhibition of Katsuhiko Hibino. I will announce the rolled drapery-formed photograph work for 34m in total length.

Sohei Nishino was born in Hyogo for 1,982 years. I produce a work based on the personal experience that I got through a thing, a trip to walk. I photograph a city, and “Doiorama Map” which connected the pieces of the photograph on a screen based on memory series is known widely.

The collage of the photograph is managed by accumulation of enormous manual work in the production process. Actually, the work of Nishino who gives a refined impression when I have a look strongly comprises a physical element. New Item to announce this time can grasp the tendency.

New Item “Tokaido” was based on ukiyoe print “fifty-three stages of the Tokaido” (Hiroshige Utagawa) and I actually walked from Tokyo to Kyoto in 2017 and faced shooting, production. The scenery that greatly transformed from the Edo era asks us about social way itself that modernized. In addition, it may be said that the “walking” act itself that is an important element greatly changes the Edo era and the meaning in the work of Nishino in the present age when the traffic developed.

The relations with others concerned are one of the important themes in the production of Nishino while I continue walking. The way of the communication continues changing in the present age so that I am represented by SNS. It may be said that Nishino uses consideration about the modern society and the relationship with others through work art by a root-like approach method.

In this exhibition, I will exhibit about ten points of photograph works which featured the theme of photograph work 19 “Tokaido” cut from rolled drapery mainly on a rolled drapery-formed masterpiece photograph work for 34 meters in total length of the collotype print by the manual work of the craftsman produced in a well-established art print “convenience temple” of Kyoto-shi.
