In Edo painting, the Edo-Kano school that moved to Edo and the Kyo-Kano school that stayed in Kyoto took different paths, creating a famed rivalry. Both established completely different styles yet created many masterpieces. This exhibition will showcase the works of both schools’ artists side by side, focusing on the rivalry between the East and West Kano schools.
