As of its Grand Reopening in 2012, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum has launched a Public Entry Exhibition “activation program.” Its aim—to build on its history as the birthplace of the Public Entry Exhibition (“Koboten”) and fulfill its active role: “To impart vitality to people’s art activities and deepen their appreciation of art.” Under the program, the museum coordinates with public art groups to hold a wide range of exhibitions, including “TOKYO ‘SHO’” and “Best Selection.” As of 2017, the museum has launched the annual “Ueno Artist Project,” an exhibition showcasing select contemporary artists now active in art groups, with the aim of sharing the fascination of their work. The exhibition is held under different theme each year.
In 2020, the 4th Ueno Artist Project exhibition will feature artists currently active in a calligraphy groups.
