Gallery Side 2 is proud to present a 4th solo exhibition of Shizuka Mitsui (b.1984) , a painter who also paints vases and pots. In 2014 at Opera City Art Gallery’s project room, she presented an dreamy landscape consisting of decorative motifs and women figures painted on cotton. After having a daughter in 2015, her works started to include subjects from everyday life, such as food, toys, and family. In the recent years, many of her works are inspired by the life of her grandfather, who came to Japan as a first-generation Korean trading merchant. Mistui recalls the strange objects in her household and recreates them from her memories. In her work, contemporary pop images are juxtaposed with fragments of traditional culture, creating an uncanny sense of time. This exhibition will consist of paintings, vases encrusted with ceramic details, Korean furniture, and kitchenware.
