Artists

Ryushi Kawabata, Makoto Aida, Tomoko Konoike, Hisashi Tenmyouya, Akira Yamaguchi
The collection of Ryutaro Takahashi, one of Japan’s leading collectors of contemporary art, will be exhibited at the Ryuko Memorial Museum along with work by the Japanese painter Ryushi Kawabata.

Takahashi’s collection of more than 2,000 pieces of Japanese contemporary art has been introduced in various exhibitions in Japan and abroad. This collaborative exhibition brings together the work of four leading Japanese contemporary artists and Kawabata’s masterpieces, allowing Ryushi Kawabata fans to experience the world of contemporary art and contemporary art fans to rediscover the appeal of his work.

The exhibition includes Makoto Aida’s “Nyuyo Kuu Bakunozu” and Kawabata’s “Koromine,” a large painting of a fighter plane; Tomoko Konoike’s “La Primavera” and Kawabata’s “Grass Seeds,” in which Kawabata depicted a grassy field using only gold paint; Hisashi Tenmyouya “Neo Senju Kannon” and “Standing Eleven-Faced Kannon Bosatsu,” a Buddhist statue housed in a room in Kawabata’s home; and Akira Yamaguchi’s “Five Samurai” and Kawabata’s warrior painting “Genghis Khan” are just a few examples of the artists’ imaginative worlds that transcend time and resonate with each other.
