Artists

Yoshihisa Hasegawa
After graduating from the Kanazawa College of Art in 1988, Yoshihisa Hasegawa entered the private school Tokyusha, which was founded in 1933 by Insho Domoto, who was known for his unique social genre paintings and bold abstract expressions. Since then, Hasegawa has been actively involved in various exhibitions, including group exhibitions and solo exhibitions, while maintaining his focus on the Nitten exhibition. In particular, in recent years, he has been working on traditional works such as a flower-and-bird screen with a modern sensibility for Ryosoku-in Temple, the pagoda of Kenninji Temple (2016), and a powerful sliding door painting of a dragon in ink and water for Tenzawa-in Temple, the pagoda of Zuiryuji Temple (2019). In addition to his traditional work as a Japanese-style painter (2019), he has also produced an exhibition of paintings by 41 students and faculty members of Nagoya University of Arts, inspired by the hit songs of singer Goro Noguchi.

In this exhibition, about 30 works from the time Hasegawa was awarded the first prize at the Nisshun Exhibition to his latest paintings will be on display, providing a panoramic view of Hasegawa’s painting career over the past 30 years, as well as an outlook on his future activities.
