The 13th International Poster Triennial in Toyama 2021

Toyama Prefectural Museum of Art and Design
Finished
The International Poster Triennial in Toyama [IPT] is an international open call exhibition, the only of its kind in Japan, in which new posters from around the globe are submitted for screening and selection. Since its inception in 1985, the event has been held once every three years in a triennial, and now garners worldwide attention in the field of design.

For the 13th open call, we received a total of 5,943 posters from 64 countries and regions across all categories, including the A and B print categories, as well as the U30+Student category, which was for students and those 30 and under.

The theme for this call’s self-produced categories [the B and U30+Student categories] was “INVISIBLE”. We also had the designers who acted as executive committee members and judges at IPT2021 produce new works on this same theme. We will introduce the latest in poster design from around the world, including works chosen from submissions for prizes and display, as well as the judges’ special invitation pieces, for a total of about 400 works.

Posters are not only mirrors into time and space, reflecting the characteristics of a given era and region; they are also a communicative tool that transcends language through visual messages.
