Artists

Akane Teshigahara
Akane Teshigahara became the fourth Iemoto (headmaster) of the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in 2001. Her grandfather Sofu Teshigahara founded the school in 1927, challenging the formalism of ikebana and leading a postwar avant-garde movement. For the 20th anniversary of her role as Iemoto, Akane presents large-scale bamboo installations in Taka Ishii Gallery’s new viewing room opened in October. The energy of the plants fills the white cube space, conveying the enduring spirit of Sogetsu ikebana.
