Ayakashi is a general term for mysterious phenomena caused by things invisible to the eye. Since ancient times, people have believed that everything has a soul and that even wood, stone, and tools have a soul, and may be marching, dancing, or singing at night when people are asleep. It is also said that if a tool is used for a long time, its soul will dwell in it, and that is why people in the past cherished things so much.

This exhibition features ukiyo-e prints, ceramics, oil paintings, sculptures, and other works created with a unique sensibility and interpretation by artists from the Edo period (1603-1868) to modern artists with precise and reliable techniques.
