Osamu Watanabe
Ultra Sweets is a new art style proposed by Osamu Watanabe, and is considered as a sweet version of “Ultra Baroque,” an architectural style of Latin American countries such as Mexico and Peru.

Ultra Baroque” is a style of baroque architecture inherited from Spain that has undergone amazing and unique changes by mixing with the local aesthetic sense. The excessive ornamentation and bright colors that fill in all the gaps between the buildings may seem a bit “overdone,” but the kitschy architecture of these buildings gives the viewer a fresh surprise.

Osamu Watanabe found similarities between the excessive decorative styles and unique aesthetics of Ultra Baroque and his own works, and coined the term “Ultra Sweets”.

At the exhibition, in addition to his past representative works with Ultra Sweets in mind, two six-meter-long “Birds, Beasts, Flowers, and Trees” screens, which Watanabe worked on for a year, will be shown for the first time.
