Tomoro Yamanaka
Tomoro Yamanaka is a painter and illustrator who focuses on the negative aspects of human nature, such as desire and vanity, through the filter of Japanese values, and depicts the strength and beauty of people who overcome them. He creates his works by combining Buddhist art from Asian countries with contemporary animation and illustration expression techniques and compositional methods.

The concept of this exhibition, which is the first solo exhibition of the artist from Miyazaki, is “Awakening the Will”. Using traditional Buddhist art motifs as a prototype for his many heroes, he redefined them to become a spiritual pillar for people living in the modern world and created his work by honestly confronting his own weaknesses, ideals, and desires. In this exhibition, the characters in the paintings are imbued with the artist’s will to paint and the will to be inspired in the midst of hesitation and confusion.
