Finished

Artists

Takashi Nakazato
Takashi Nakazato (1937-) was born as the fifth son of the twelfth head of the Nakazato Taroemon Kiln (Muan Nakazato), of a prestigious pottery family in the Karatsu region of Saga Prefecture.

After learning the basics of pottery in Kyoto and Saga, Nakazato began working on Tanegashima-yaki (Tanegashima pottery) in 1971 on Tanegashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture, making use of the island’s soil. Nakazato’s pottery has been attracting many ceramic enthusiasts as he travels back and forth between Japan and overseas, creating everything from large-scale works such as pots and bowls to tableware. This exhibition will introduce the world of Nakazato’s pottery through his new work as well as earlier work.
