Clara Desire
Clara Desire is a French artist who follows the tradition of graffiti art and started her career as a painter heavily influenced by Futura 2000 (USA), a pioneer of abstract street art. As the abstract expressionism and the art informel movement did, street art is strongly influenced by the idea of “automatism” advocated by André Breton, the creator of the Manifesto of Surrealism. Desire, along with her beloved comic characters, randomly writes words that come to her mind, as if she is experimenting with the style of “automatism”. She has also incorporated the primitivism style of Jean-Michel Basquiat to create her unique world view.

For this solo exhibition, Desire has created 34 works under the themes of “Thinking of Japan” and “Feel Japan” based on her own experience of staying in here for a year in 2002. The title of the exhibition, “Everlasting Muse,” refers to the artist herself, and this is her first new work since her first solo exhibition in Japan in 2007.
