Ryu Ika
Ryu Ika was born in Inner Mongolia, China, and studied photography at Musashino Art University and Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Ika has attracted attention for her remarkable activities, including the collection of his work at the Kiyosato Photo Art Museum, winning the Grand Prix at the 21st Photography “1_WALL” in 2019, and the publication of a photo book by Akaaka Art Publishing. Her photographs are characterized by intense contrast, coarse noise, and a raw sense of materiality and emit a strong energy that seems to reveal even the existence of the photographer.

This exhibition is an update of “Interface Approach” held at Flotsam Books in March this year, and will be a new installation by Ika, who always questions “what is photography?” Two images, one is a photograph of a human being and the other is a photograph of a farewell to a person, will travel from inside to outside of the gallery, filling it up and leaving traces.

The artist says that taking a photograph is a trace, it is the past, it is a farewell to oneself and the photograph, and it is also a connection.
