Guy Bourdin “The Absurd and the Sublime”

Chanel Nexus Hall

Artists

Guy Bourdin
With his meticulously composed work that always combines the absurd and the sublime, and the unexpected that plays with the fine line between the two, Guy Bourdin has elevated fashion photography to an outstanding art form.

Born and raised in Paris, Guy Bourdin was inspired by the idea of art and began experimenting with painting and drawing, and then began taking photographs in the late 1940s. In 1951, he met Man Ray, and throughout his life, he was greatly influenced by Surrealism. At the same time, he was fascinated by Alfred Hitchcock’s films, which evoked enigmatic plots, created subconscious tensions, and drew the viewer’s curiosity with their meticulously constructed scenes.

In addition to Guy Bourdin’s iconic works, this exhibition will feature original prints from the artist’s archives that have never been exhibited before. Vintage black-and-white photographs show his early experiments and the evolution of his unique style. These works exemplify Guy Bourdin’s creative process and shed light on his curiosity for enigmatic images and Surrealist cinema.
