Yoshi Takata
Yoshi Takata was born in 1916 as the granddaughter of Shinzo Takada, a wealthy merchant in the Meiji era. In 1954, she moved to Paris on her own, where she worked as an interpreter for Ihei Kimura, who was visiting Paris to take photographs. Later, she became friends with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Robert Doisneau, and others, and acted as a bridge to introduce French photographers to Japan. When she met Pierre Cardin, an up-and-coming designer at the time, she became his trusted assistant around the world. Takata contributed to the exchange between France and Japan, not only in the fashion and photography world, but also in the industrial world, and showed her photographs in Japan and Paris during her lifetime. While assisting Pierre Cardin in his work, When Yoshio Hattori assisted Pierre Cardin in his work, Tadaka developed a close friendship with Hattori. Yoshio Hattori's collection includes Cardin's haute couture works, original prints, and French films. This exhibition features about 30 works by Yoshi Takada from the collection. The works are gelatin silver prints made by Pierre Gassmann Studio.
