Onkochishin: Review the Old and Know the New - Important Cultural Property Exhibition

Shiga Museum of Art
Finished
Emaki scrolls, hanging scrolls, and folding screens are common in Japanese art, but these works cannot be appreciated unless they are opened by human hands. The title of the exhibition has a double meaning: the act of opening the work and the expectation that the museum will open it. Kuwasamiji Temple Engi Emaki (Important Cultural Property, owned by Kuwasamiji Temple, Omi Hachiman City) is one of the masterpieces that Shiga Prefecture, a treasure house of picture scrolls, is proud of. This exhibition introduces the museum’s collection from the three perspectives of “panoramic view,” “depicting a story,” and “scenes of prayer,” using this work, which is the oldest in the collection, as a guide.

The exhibition will be changed during the exhibition period.
