This exhibition is curated by Takeshi Kudo. It focuses Okamoto’s career in Okinawa, where the artist lived and worked from 2004 until 2006. Because Okinawa became the battlefront in the Pacific War, the temples and shrines of Kyoto remain today. Okamoto’s grandmother told him this, and that is the reason why he moved there from Kyoto. In the summer of 2004, a U.S. military helicopter crashed on Okinawa International University’s campus. At that time, Okamoto worked at Ryukyu University as a part-time lecturer. Okamoto got to know the Okinawan students accustomed to keeping silent when the noise of jet planes occurred during class. Okamoto’s artwork in Okinawa reflects his experience, indicating the correlation between Okinawa, the United States, and Japan.
