Fleur van Dodewaard
Dutch conceptual artist, Fleur van Doodewaard’s practice is situated at the intersection of photography, sculpture, and painting. She has been playing with and experimenting with the characteristics, history, and possibilities of these media in relation to each other.

In this project, women, men, and children of various ages living in Kamiyama-cho, a small village in Shikoku, used disposable cameras to take photographs. Following a set of instructions by van Dodewaard, who was unable to visit Japan for the residency, the photographs were taken in color, movement, and of their loved ones and their surroundings. The work was created in response to COVID-19, a celebration of freedom in the face of time constraints, building bonds across oceans, and taking a spiritual journey to a place of one’s choice.

Each of the 15 people who participated in the project used a 27-frame camera to shoot one image at a time according to a given theme. They were given only one chance to photograph their favorite shoes, water flowing from the tap, an adult jumping, etc. The result was a work consisting of 15 variations based on a single instruction.

Post will exhibit the print sheets and sell the book of works, giving visitors an opportunity to also experience the process of how a photo book is made.
