Naoki Ishikawa
Naoki Ishikawa has been photographing the world through repeated fieldwork, from the polar regions to cities, and in 2020, as COVID-19 spread around the world, making it difficult to travel across countries and regions, Ishikawa turned his attention to the city of Tokyo, his birthplace.

In this exhibition, Ishikawa will present new work taken in Tokyo from the beginning of 2020 to the summer of 2021. A rat runs selfishly through the streets of Shibuya, which has been emptied of people due to the declaration of a state of emergency. Using film with lens, Ishikawa captures the speed of the city, which was changing rapidly every day due to the Tokyo Olympics, Paralympics, and redevelopment, and the chaos caused by the pandemic.

In this work, Ishikawa uses the room itself as a "camera obscura" by covering the window of his house with a sheet and reflecting the reversed outside view through a small hole in the room, photographing the scenery outside the window without ever leaving the room. This exhibition will trace the footsteps of a photographer who has been documenting the accelerating changes in Tokyo over the past year and a half.
