Great Tiger Tateishi Exhibition: Painting the World

Museum of Modern Art, Saitama
Finished

Artists

Tiger Tateishi
Starting out as an artist, Tiger Tateishi (real name: Koichi Tateishi, 1941-98) expanded his work to manga, illustrations and picture books, and thoroughly dismantled the cultural hierarchy. The artist’s style of depicting extraordinary transformations of time and space through bold rendering and restructuring of images by his excellent drawing skills continues to inspire young artists today. This exhibition, which will be held concurrently with Urawa Art Museum, will be a large-scale retrospective of the artist’s early works from the 1960s, his work in Italy in the 1970s and his creations after returning to Japan.
