Yoshi Takata
Yoshi Takata was born in 1916 as the granddaughter of Shinzo Takata, a wealthy merchant in the Meiji era. In 1954, she moved to Paris on her own, where she worked as an interpreter for Ihei Kimura, who was visiting Paris to take photographs. Later, she became friends with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Robert Doisneau, and others, and acted as a bridge to introduce French photographers to Japan. When she met Pierre Cardin, an up-and-coming designer at the time, Takata became his trusted assistant around the world. She contributed to the exchange between France and Japan, not only in the fashion and photography world, but also in the industrial world, and exhibited many of her photographs of Paris in Japan and France during her lifetime. This exhibition will feature approximately 60 works by Yoshi Takata from the collection, divided into Part 1 and Part 2. The works are gelatin silver prints made by Pierre Gassmann Studio.
