Akio Onishi
For his “still life” series, the 2020 Shell Art Award-winning artist Akio Onishi takes images of strangers’ faces from the web, prints them out, distorts them as sculptures, then photographs and paints them. His work moves from sculpture to photography to painting. He considers these works to be a kind of “self portrait” reflecting the relationships of self and other in contemporary society. Early through recent works are on display.
