This retrospective exhibition of Japanese style painter Uemura Shoen (1875-1949), features the extraordinary presence of a female artist in Kyoto’s modern art world. The Museum’s last Uemura Shoen solo exhibition was around a half century ago. A total of approximately 100 representative paintings will be displayed, including ten from the

Museum collection and others from museums and private collections nationwide. The paintings span from Uemura’s earliest paintings such as The Flowers of Life (1899) to late works such as Early Summer Evening (1949).
