Seiko Wakasugi + Mai Yamamoto Exhibition

Seiko House Hall
Finished

Artists

Seiko Wakasugi, Mai Yamamoto
This is the first two-person exhibition at Wako of porcelain artist Seiko Wakasugi, who has a studio in the countryside of Sanda City, Hyogo Prefecture, and glass artist Mai Yamamoto, who continues to work from her studio in Tokyo.

Wakasugi, who creates unglazed white porcelain by casting and molding, has always created her prototypes by cutting directly from a block of plaster without drawing sketches, and after casting, she makes incisions to create eye-catching and flexible works. She says, “I continue to pursue the possibilities of expression that only a mold can offer, reflecting the inspiration I get from botanical forms and the daily impressions I receive from nature.”

Yamamoto, on the other hand, focuses on colorful glass objects that can be enjoyed by all five senses. She says, “I cut and shape glass blocks and glasses made by glass blowing, and I try to create forms and textures that allow us to feel the wind, the smell of the air, and the life of plants.”

The two artists, who are both fascinated by nature and the changing of the seasons, will also present their joint works, which are both gorgeous and full of dynamism.
