Momoko Jennifer Iida, Seiichiro Osa
Momoko Jennifer Iida is a painter who works with layers of oil paint that flow and accumulate on a flat surface. She pours liquid oil paint on top of a laid canvas, allowing it to flow and adhere to the image, mainly through changes in gradient, and continues the process layer by layer. The paint as a fluid, while carefully controlled by the artist, follows gravity away from his intentions, and the color and shape of the paint, once fixed, changes like an organic body. There is a multilayered time that is tinged with coincidence, which opposes the artist's will to paint something.

Seiichiro Osa works on abstract paintings that emerge sensitively with a minimum of elements. Facing a vertical painting cloth, he thrusts his brush as if looking for a pause, and then responds to the appearance of the figure. The process of painting, which Osa calls a game, reverberates outside the rectangle and in front of the viewer as a trace of the shaking and trembling of single strokes and the intersecting colors and shapes that arise from them. In recent years, he has produced a series of work named UPO (undefined painting object), and a series of work in which he repeatedly draws similar compositions while searching for the fundamental meaning of motifs such as 0, △, and □.

In this exhibition, “Tentative Dahlia", the artists consider the existence of gravity on earth as a universal problem for painting. By focusing on the material basis of painting, especially its close and inseparable relationship with gravity, the exhibition aims to provide an opportunity to imagine an alternative materialism for painting and the way painting should be under different gravity.
