The German poet and writer Erich Kästner (1899-1974) is known for his humorous, socially astute poems and children's books including "Emil and the Detectives" and "The Flying Classroom". After World War II, Kästner published the picture book "The Animal Congress" (1949), in which he criticized humanity's inability to stop fighting.
With humor, sweetness, and irony, Kästner spoke to children about the great challenges facing humanity. But his message for adults to stop fighting and start talking about the future, for the sake of children, remains unanswered today.
In this exhibition, eight artists will portray the story of "The Animal Congress" in a series of paintings, sculptures, installations, videos, etc., and explore Kästner's message once again.
