Artists

Ryo Okamoto
After studying art in London, Ryo Okamoto exhibited in Japan, the U.S., and the Netherlands before launching Calma in 2018. The concept behind the project is “future tribal lifestyles and expressive acts.” His works take a variety of forms including bikes, sculptures, planes, and installations.

The theme of this exhibition is "beliefs and thoughts." Okamoto has been involved in a number of projects, including "Radio Calma," a dialogue with professionals through SNS, the launch and operation of the On The Hill complex, which opened this spring, and the creation of the "Yoshino River," which he visits every year. Okamoto has been involved in initiatives confronting the human condition and nature, including the "Rubbish Rabbit Project," which tackles the problem of garbage in the Yoshino River. The concepts and beliefs that form the framework of these activities will be exhibited as two-dimensional works, interweaving paintings and text.

The meaning of the words and images scattered throughout the work is left to the viewer's understanding, and the relationships created by linking them together generate a succession of contexts. It evokes the process by which we come into contact with and understand texts and images, encouraging us to reflect on the act of recognizing things.
