Collaboration '98: Yoko Yamamoto & Makoto Wada "Two-Person Cinema"

Galerie Tokyo Humanité
Finished

Artists

Yoko Yamamoto, Makoto Wada
Yoko Yamamoto is active in a wide range of genres as a copperplate engraver and painter, and Makoto Wada is not only an illustrator and graphic designer, but has also left a significant mark on the Japanese contemporary art scene. Yamamoto taught herself how to make copperplate prints in the 1990s. Later, in 1998, she and Wada held their first collaborative exhibition of oil paintings at the gallery’s Nagoya and Tokyo branches. The same year, these two movie lovers completed a large canvas (112.1 x 181.8 cm) portraying masterpieces such as " Les enfants du Paradis," "The Godfather," "Lawrence of Arabia," and "Star Wars.” This exhibition will feature six new oil paintings, including four from the 1998 show and two added in the same year ("The Third Man" and "The Seven Samurai"). These works will be exhibited for the first time in 24 years. Wada's work was reevaluated in a large-scale solo exhibition at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery last year, but before his death, he wanted many people to see his collaborative oil paintings, which led to this exhibition. In addition to the oil paintings, etchings based on the motifs of films will also be exhibited.
