Artists

Tomonori Toyofuku
Tomonori Toyofuku (1925–2019, born in Kurume), creator of Nanotsu Okan (1996), the red repatriation commemorative monument that stands at the Port of Hakata, was a world-renowned sculpture artist who was based in Milan, Italy, for about four decades after his work was exhibited at the 30th Venice Biennale in 1960. While living abroad, Toyofuku honed his artistic sensibilities and established a unique form of expression. This exhibition explores the exceptional world of the artist’s expression, focusing on the works that were donated to the museum last year.
