From the Collection: Jiro Hashimoto and Kakuzo Tatehata

Kawagoe City Art Museum
Finished

Artists

Jiro Hashimoto, Kakuzo Tatehata
Jiro Hashimoto and Kakuzo Tatehata were both born in 1919. Both studied sculpture at what is now Tokyo University of the Arts – Hashimoto in 1952 and Tatehata in 1953. They both spent time in France. Despite these similarities, the two artists have very different styles. Hashimoto worked on portraits that emphasized calmness and stability. Tatehata, on the other hand, was a pioneer in the field of abstract sculpture, combining sculptural forms with social observations while pursuing the possibilities of new materials. Enjoy seeing the differences and similarities of these two artists who lived in the same era.
*To prevent the spread of COVID-19, touching the displays is not currently permitted.
