Fujiko Nakaya
Fujiko Nakaya, known as the "fog sculptor," has exhibited her works at the famous Tate Modern and more than 80 other venues around the world. She will be a central artist in the "Garden Art Project," a part of "All Himeji Arts & Life Project," starting this year.
"Fog Sculptures" are artificial sculptures created with water, designed based on careful planning by Nakatani herself. On the other hand, once generated, the fog changes its form in response to the weather. It is a collaboration between man and nature, which, while challenging nature, simultaneously lets nature take its course.
The "Fog Sculpture" transforms a familiar scene into a completely different world, drawing the viewer's attention to a forgotten landscape and bringing new insights. And when the viewer enters the fog, their vision is lost in a world of pure white darkness, inviting the viewer to perceive nature by using all of their senses. This year's exhibition, the first in a three-year project, is titled "Flying Egrets," based on the theme of the "physicality" of the "Fog Sculpture."
